Thank you for being a James Changer!

We are grateful for your commitment to the James River and are excited to have you join our mission!

Since 1976, the James River Association has been the only organization solely devoted to protecting and preserving the beauty and the bounty of the James River. Over that time, we have changed the overall health of the James River from a D-minus to a B-minus. Your support strengthens our effort to reach a fully healthy grade A James River.

We have found that the more we change the James, the more it changes us. Cleaner, healthier waters provide us with more opportunities for recreation and wellness. Thriving habitats reveal more awe-inspiring beauty. Greater partnerships and dialogue lead to more economic activity in our neighborhoods.

Bringing together more voices for positive change creates a stronger sense of community and belonging. Keep up to date on our website, thejamesriver.org, and stay in touch through our social media channels. Share all the ways you can #BeAJamesChanger!

Volunteer to Be A James Changer!

Volunteer for one of our hands-on watershed restoration projects or a local river clean-up project this year, or you might even want to become a volunteer RiverRat or water quality monitor! Learn more about volunteering with us.

Connect with the James!

We believe the best way to develop an appreciation for the James River is to connect with it. We do this through guided canoe and kayak programs that connect people to the history and natural resources of the James and its tributaries from April until November. If you are planning a trip to Lynchburg, check out James River Adventures, located across the river from historic downtown Lynchburg where you can enjoy cruising the city’s riverfront and within minutes be in a beautiful, natural river.
