James River Association Programs

What We Do

The James River Association is the only organization devoted solely to the protection of the James River. Throughout the James River’s 10,000-square mile watershed,  we work through our core programs:

  • Advocacy
  • Education
  • Community Conservation
  • Watershed Restoration

This helps people of all ages enjoy, appreciate and protect the beauty and health of the James River for future generations to enjoy.

We work with local, state and federal lawmakers to ensure the health of the James River.

Our Education program connects youth with river-based learning experiences that inspire confidence, ecological understanding, nature appreciation and stewardship.

Community Conservation

Our Community Conservation program helps communities realize the benefits of a healthy James River and promotes protecting it.

The James RIVERKEEPER® serve as the eyes, ears and voice of the James River and its tributaries – monitoring river health, identifying problems, and ensuring that solutions are executed properly.
