Watershed Society
The James River Association (JRA), founded in 1976 when the James River was considered one of the most polluted rivers in America, is the only organization solely dedicated to protecting and enhancing the James River and the 25,000 miles of tributaries that flow throughout its 10,000 square mile watershed, from the mountains to the Chesapeake Bay.
When you join the Watershed Society, you are supporting JRA’s work toward protecting the river and connecting people to it for many generations to come. Your planned giving contribution will help JRA to build steady and sustainable financial resources that are crucial for the river’s present needs, future conservation efforts, and our commitment to provide a Grade-A river.
Through planned giving, you can minimize your tax obligations while maximizing benefits to your heirs and JRA.
Bequest
You can receive potential tax savings for your estate by including James River Association in your will or trust for a specific dollar amount, a percentage of your estate, or another type of provision. You may restrict your gift to a particular area within the James River Association’s work knowing that bequest gifts live on in perpetuity in JRA’s endowment.
Retirement Plan Assets
Consider leaving your retirement plan assets to JRA and give other lesser-taxed assets to your heirs.
Charitable Remainder Trust
A charitable remainder trust allows you or another person to receive payments from the trust for life or for a term (not to exceed 20 years). At the end of the lifetime or term, the assets pass to JRA.
Charitable Lead Trust
A charitable lead trust allows you to arrange for one or more charities to receive annuity payments from the trust. At the end of the trust term, the assets pass back to you or your beneficiaries.
