Professional Development

The James River Association provides high-quality professional learning that meets the evolving needs of teachers and schools across the James River watershed. Our Professional Development program helps teachers and school administrators involve the entire school community in outdoor learning experiences that are aligned with Virginia Standards of Learning (SOLs).

We focus on methods for incorporating environmental education into the core subject areas of reading, math, science, and social studies. Our goals are to help increases students’ achievement and engagement in learning while improving their environmental literacy and stewardship ethic.

Check out this video our our Professional Development with Henrico County 4th and 5th grade science teachers. During the professional training teachers had the opportunities to collect macroinvertebrates at Reedy Creek Park, Canoe at Deep Bottom Park, and conduct water quality testing on the Spirit of the James, 44 ft pontoon boat.
