During the last weekend of June paddlers participated in the 2017 James River Rundown. The 3rd James River Rundown featured three races, a two-day 120-mile race, a 50-mile race, and 25-mile race, as well as a fun 5-mile float. All four events finished at Goochland County’s Tucker Park for a family-friendly post-race celebration featuring food, beverage, live music by Sturgeon City, and programming offered by L.L. Bean Outdoor Discovery Schools.
Ethan Palmer of Avon, North Carolina was the first competitor to finish the 120-mile race, which began at Amherst County’s Riveredge Park. Ethan finished the grueling two-day race in 18 hours and nine minutes.
