Thank you for your donation
Thank you for being a James Changer!
Since 1976, the James River Association has been the only organization solely devoted to protecting and preserving the beauty and the bounty of the James River.
For many years, the James River’s health was severely compromised. In the 1970s, the river earned a Grade D and was even closed to fishing for 13 years due to the devastating Kepone disaster in 1975.
Today, thanks to the tireless work of JRA, our partners, volunteers, and supporters like you, the river’s overall health score—tracked through our State of the James report —has improved to a Grade B.
We have found that the more we change the James, the more it changes us. Cleaner, healthier waters provide us with more opportunities for recreation and wellness. Thriving habitats reveal more awe-inspiring beauty. Greater partnerships and dialogue lead to more economic activity in our neighborhoods.
More ways you can get involved!
Bringing together more voices for positive change creates a stronger sense of community and belonging. Here are just a few ways you can continue to be a James Changer today:
- Volunteer: Join one of our hands-on watershed restoration projects, or train to become a volunteer RiverRat or water quality monitor!
- Take Action at Home: Pledge to be a River Hero Home by adopting yard practices that stop pollution before it reaches the river.
- Become an Advocate: Help us make your voice heard in the next General Assembly session and stand up for funding and policies that protect the James.
