Join us on Saturday, September 12, 2026, from 11 AM to 3 PM at the James A. Buzzard River Education Center (2825 Dock St., Richmond, VA) for our 3rd annual community celebration of nature, sustainability, and the local community.

Located just off the Virginia Capital Trail near Dock Street Park, this free public event features a diverse marketplace of eco-conscious artisans and vendors, hands-on activities, and inspiration for sustainable living. EcoFest is the perfect opportunity to connect with fellow outdoor enthusiasts and celebrate the vibrant river ecosystem that connects us all.

11:00 am – 3:00 pm: Tree Giveaway

Attendees will have an opportunity to select a regionally native tree species for their yard. Participants will also be provided with information about trees, including guidance on how to properly plant and care for them. Trees available on a first come, first served basis. 

11:00 am – 12:30 pm, 1:30 pm – 3:00 pm: Big Canoe Paddle

Join the James River Association for a guided tour of Richmond’s riverfront in a big canoe! Participants will learn about the natural and historic resources of Richmond’s riverfront and the James River. Each of our big canoes can hold 13 passengers.  REGISTRATION FULL

11:00 am – 2:00 pm: RVA Paddlesports Paddle in Your Park

Join RVA Paddlesports as they offer a variety of free paddling experiences appropriate for all ages and skill levels, to increase diversity in the sport, and to promote inclusivity in the paddlesports community here in Richmond. Try a kayak, stand up paddleboard, or whitewater raft at these events. Registration requested, but not required.

12:30 pm and 2:15pm: Table Talks with the JRA Restoration Team

Visit the Restoration Table inside the James A. Buzzard River Education Center for two table talks. One at 12:30 pm about “What are live stakes?” and one at 2:15 pm about the “Benefits of streamside forests and how you can help!”

12:00 pm: Tree Walk

Participants will tour the grounds of the James A. Buzzard River Education Center as well as nearby Great Shiplock Park and Chapel Island with a James River Association staff member and learn about the benefits of trees. Please click here to register. 

1:00 pm: Rain Barrel Workshop

Staff members will provide instruction on how to assemble and install rain barrels at home. The registration fee for the workshop is $50 and each registration comes with a 55-gallon drum and  DIY rain barrel installation kit. Registration is required. Please click here to register. 

2:00 pm: Composting Workshop

Participants will learn about the benefits of composting, how to start composting at home, and local composting programs available in the Richmond region. REGISTRATION FULL
