About the Batteau Festival
The James River Batteau Festival is an annual eight-day voyage from Lynchburg to Maidens, Virginia. It preserves the history of the traditional shallow-draft boats that were once the primary mode of transporting goods—primarily tobacco—along the James River. Today, it serves as a vibrant reminder of the river’s vital role in our history, commerce, and recreation.
Come out to support the crews and celebrate the history, heritage, and future of the James River!
