James River Week
September 12th – 19th, 2026
James River Week is an annual week-long celebration of the James River, bringing together communities and organizations across Virginia to protect, experience, and connect with the James.
From September 12–19, 2026, organizations throughout the James River watershed will host events that invite people to get outside, give back, learn something new, and experience the river in their own way. James River Week events may include paddling trips, river cleanups, hikes, wildlife experiences, educational programs, festivals, community gatherings, wellness activities, and more.
Protect the James. Give back through river cleanups, conservation projects, restoration activities, and other volunteer opportunities.
Experience the James. Get on—or alongside—the river through paddling, fishing, hiking, wildlife watching, festivals, and outdoor recreation.
Connect with the James. Discover the river through education, history, arts and culture, community events, wellness, mindfulness, and other experiences that deepen our connection to the James.
Whether you’re discovering the James River for the first time or already consider it part of home, James River Week is an invitation to find your own way to connect with Virginia’s largest river.
Hosting an event? James River Week is powered by organizations and communities throughout the watershed. If you’re hosting an event between September 12–19 that helps people protect, experience, or connect with the James, we’d love to help spread the word.
