October is River Hero Homes Month!
River Hero Homes is a community of stewards that realize the first step to a healthier James River starts at home. Implementing river-friendly conservation practices at homes is as easy as properly disposing of pet waste, using regionally native plants, reducing the use of fertilizers, herbicides, and pesticides, and conserving water. October is River Hero Homes Month and we are inviting all residents of the 10,000-square-mile James River watershed to take the pledge to become a hero for both their community and river. River Hero Homes membership comes with a membership card, discounts at nurseries and other businesses, a James Changer yard flag, seasonal newsletters, and access to workshops and webinars.

River Hero Homes members and individuals who join the program during the month of October will be entered into a drawing to receive a River Hero Homes package that includes the following items:
- 55-gallon drum and RainRecycle Rain Barrel Kit
- Conservation landscaping consultation
- Regionally native plants installed by the James River Association
All River Hero Home members will be automatically entered. If you are not a River Hero Home member, click here to take the pledge and join River Hero Homes!
