THE COLLECTOR’S BARREL
The James River Association is launching its inaugural artist rain barrel project to support our mission: protecting the James River and connecting people to it.
Renowned muralists Matt Lively and Ed Trask of the Universal Arts Teaching Gallery are collaborating to transform a functional rain barrel into a one-of-a-kind piece of art. The finished piece will serve as both a practical water-conservation tool and an original artwork supporting local conservation efforts.
This original piece is more than a striking addition to your yard, garden, or business—it is a visible commitment to Virginia’s arts and environmental conservation. Proudly displayed, it showcases your support of the arts while helping preserve Virginia’s vital resource—the James River. Your ticket purchase directly contributes to the health of the James River, its watershed, and the surrounding communities.
Why Rain Barrels Matter
Rain barrels reduce the stormwater pollution leaving your property. The average homeowner can collect over 1,500 gallons of water every year. By capturing runoff from your downspout, you conserve water and protect the quality of local streams. As part of this project, you will become part of JRA’s River Hero Homes network.
Key Event & Raffle Details
- Display & Unveiling: September 12, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the James A. Buzzard River Education Center. Revealed by CEO Bill Street at JRA’s 3rd Annual EcoFest.
- How to enter: Purchase a $50 raffle ticket through the form below. To improve your chances of winning and to support James River conservation efforts, purchase additional tickets!
- Raffle Window: Opens September 12, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. and closes Sunday, September 27th, at 8:00 p.m.
- Winner Announced: Monday, September 28th!
- Delivery & Installation: This rain barrel has been prepared and treated with applications to withstand weather elements. Delivery and installation are included and will be provided by JRA’s team of conservation experts.
