In the ongoing effort to remove unsightly tires from the beautiful James, a fleet of historic James River batteaux will again embark on an annual trek to extract and haul hundreds of tires to Scottsville for recycling. On Saturday, September 30, paddlers in canoes and kayaks are requested to join forces with dedicated batteau crews in the tire extraction process.

The James River Association will provide canoes and kayaks on a first-come, first-served basis. James River Runners has offered free riverside camping space for all volunteers at their lovely Hatton Ferry location (right next to America’s only remaining poled ferry). In fact, volunteers are invited to camp on September 29, on September 30, or on both nights! Lots of fun to be had in Scottsville on the James in the autumn.

Space is limited, so register today to reserve your camping spot and boat!
